britney spears turns twenty-one today
She once sang that she was not a girl and not yet a woman,
but tomorrow, Britney Spears can rewrite that hit song while toasting herself
with her first legal glass of Cristal: The perky pop tart is turning 21.
Spears has been struggling to erase her bubble-gum chewing, Pepsi-drinking
image into something more mature.
The girl whom Camille Paglia once called "Lolita on aerobics" has certainly
been acting more like an adult - for better or worse.
Lately, she's more likely to show up at celebrity events wearing Versace
couture rather than tight crop-tops and jeans. And the former Mouseketeer
certainly knew when to bail out of her own restaurant, Nyla, which she did last
week, claiming it was mismanaged.
If Spears wants to celebrate her birthday with a drink, she may have
competition at the bar. After all, President Bush's twin daughters Jenna and
Barbara turned 21 on Nov. 25.
